Alanya is a historical and tourist city located on the southern coast of Turkey. However, one of the most prominent periods in the history of Alanya was during the Seljuk era. Under the rule of the Seljuk dynasty, Alanya became an important cultural and military center.
During the Seljuk era, Alanya gained significant military importance due to its strategic location. The Alanya Fortress was greatly expanded and fortified. Perched on a high hill, the fortress was a splendid example of Seljuk architecture and served as the control center of the city. The walls, towers, and bastions of the fortress were built to defend against enemies. Thanks to its strategic position, Alanya was known as the gateway to the Seljuk Empire, opening up to the Mediterranean Sea.
In addition to the Alanya Fortress, other important structures were built during the Seljuk era, such as the Shipyard, Kizilkule (Red Tower), and the Alanya Archaeological Museum. The Shipyard served as a base for the Seljuk fleet and facilitated maritime operations. Kizilkule, a red brick tower, became a symbol of Alanya and a majestic example of architecture. The Alanya Archaeological Museum showcases archaeological finds from the region and offers visitors a unique journey through history.
During the Seljuk era, Alanya became a cultural center. Mosques, madrasas (Islamic schools), and baths were built, reflecting the influence of Islamic art. The madrasas were used as educational institutions where scholars were trained."
